Celebrating 65 Years of Conservation

This year, we celebrate 65 years of conservation. What began as a modest effort to save a stand of cypress trees has grown into a lasting commitment to protecting Delaware’s most treasured natural landscapes. Sixty-five years later, we’re still wild about land conservation, and we invite you to join us in 2026 as we celebrate six decades of protecting the places that matter most.

Setting the mood to “celebrate”, we have partnered with Harvest Ridge Winery, with DWL hosting events at Harvest Ridge to recognize our supporters and celebrate everyone’s efforts over the past 65 years, while gearing up for the next 65!

We hope to see you at the following events!

Birds, Bugs, and Bogs After Dark!
Saturday June 6th, 5:00 pm
DWL Roman Fisher Farm, Great Cypress Swamp
24558 Cypress Rd, Frankford DE 19945

Join us for a unique nighttime wildlife tour through the Great Cypress Swamp!  This is your chance to experience the Swamp like never before – under the stars and in the company of expert naturalists.  We will begin the evening at the historic Roman Fisher Farm, where we’ll bird just before sunset.  Then we will caravan through the swamp, stopping for more birding opportunities and exploring wetland restoration areas for reptiles and amphibians.  We will cap off the evening with a light-sheet setup for “mothing” and viewing of other nighttime insects.

We will be joined by
Steve McInnis, Sussex Bird Club
Jim White, expert herpetologist and recent retiree, Delaware Nature Society

We hope you can join us as we learn more about Delaware’s nocturnal wildlife from some of the most knowledgeable naturalists in the State of Delaware!

We recommend you bring the following items:

  • A headlamp(preferred) or flashlight
  • Binoculars
  • Bug-spray
  • Hip or chest waders, or rubber knee-boots (As we look for amphibians, some areas will not be accessible without waders.)

A change of clothes and a towel.  (We don’t plan on anyone falling in, but just in case!)

Volunteers Needed: The tour through the swamp will be run as a caravan, taking place on stone and dirt roads with potential slightly muddy conditions in spots.  If you have an SUV or crew-cab truck and are willing to drive, please let us know when you register.  4-wheel drive is not necessary, but sedans and smaller vehicles may not have the necessary ground clearance.

Space is limited.  Registration is required.
