Volunteer Opportunity!

Horseshoe Crab Survey Site Coordinator

Delaware Wild Lands (DWL) is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to coordinate our annual horseshoe crab surveys at Big Stone Beach (Milford, DE). Thousands of horseshoe crabs come ashore each summer to spawn along the Delaware Bay, an essential process that sustains the ecosystem and supports migratory shorebirds. These surveys rely on dedicated volunteers and private landowners to count spawning horseshoe crabs, providing valuable data for researchers and land managers to monitor population trends.

Volunteer Horseshoe Crab Site Coordinator Responsibilities:
• Work with DWL and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control staff to complete the required survey training and receive materials.
• Coordinate volunteers for scheduled surveys.
• Lead up to 12 surveys from May through June with volunteer teams.
