Celebrating the First Day of Deer Season

The first day of deer season has arrived, bringing crisp morning air, the quiet excitement of the woods, and a sense of anticipation that spans generations. Big News from Augustine Creek—Happening Today!

Delaware Wild Lands has protected new property in the scenic Augustine Creek area! This addition strengthens our growing land complex and contributes to a 23,000-acre corridor of protected lands stretching along Delaware’s Bayshore. These wetlands are a special part of Delaware’s landscape—filtering water that flows into the Delaware Bay, softening the impact of storms and sea level rise, and providing vital habitat for waterfowl, fish, and so many other species that depend on healthy wetlands to survive and thrive. In land protection, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts—and today, we take another critical step toward keeping Delaware wild. World Ocean Month

June is World Ocean Month, and although Delaware Wild Lands doesn’t own oceanfront property, all of our properties do feed into either the Delaware Bay or the Chesapeake Bay, which in turn feed into the Atlantic Ocean.  Oceans cover 70% of the Earth and support a wide diversity of species; from the smallest microscopic plankton, […]

DWL’s Historic Hand in Helping Bring Wild Turkeys Back To Delaware

For those who frequent Delaware’s fields, forests, swamps, and marshes, sightings of wild turkeys have become a familiar part of the landscape. What many don’t know is the significant role Delaware Wild Lands (DWL) played in reintroducing this native species to the state. Wild turkeys, a secretive woodland species, are native only to North America. […]
